Yesterday, 03 August 2008, one of the most controversial highway in Malaysia (besides the Bandar Mahkota Cheras highway) again became the headline of all newspapers and other news broadcast.
The MRR II was built with so many defects and yet, the government decided to take the tax-payers' money to rectify the MRR II overhead bridge without any civil/criminal liabilities of the developers involved be brought to the Court to justify to the public.
Until today, we do not know whether the MRR II was constructed in accordance with the rules and regulations for safety measurement. No one knew whether the structure is safe for usage despite the fact that cracks and fallen bricks occur and re-occur over the years.
With 70 millions wasted just to remedy the problems, it seems that MRR II inevitably with undergo another major rectification works.
People are put in fear because of MRR II and the road users' lives should not be put at stake.
What I will suggest is this, plain and simple:
1. Construct an alternative highway to replace the whole MRR II
2. Tear down the whole MRR II.
3. Put the defaulters responsible, whether they are in the government or the developers in prison for "national security" and "social harmony" after the due process of law been exercised.
4. Reform JKR
